Applying to the Neuroscience PhD Program

Important dates for candidates applying for Fall 2025 admission:

August 1, 2024 - Application portal opens

November 1, 2024 - Priority deadline (application fee is waived for domestic students)

December 1, 2024 - Final application deadline


Required Components of the Application

• Personal statement indicating why you wish to pursue a PhD in Neuroscience and how joining the program at UTSA will further your career goals.

• A resume summarizing past education and work experiences, particularly any previous experience conducting research.

• Official transcripts from previously attended institutions showing your GPA.

• Three letters of recommendation that are preferably sent by individuals who know you well and have observed you working in a research setting.

• International students: Applicants must have their transcripts evaluated by the Educational Credential Evaluators (preferred option) or by an agency approved by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Applicants receiving transcript evaluations from a NACES-approved agency should have their evaluations sent to graduate.documents@utsa.edu.  Applicants from institutions where English is not the official language must submit results from TOEFL paper (minimum score of 550), TOEFL internet (minimum score of 79), IELTS (minimum score of 6.5), or Duolingo (minimum score of 100).

• Application fee of $50 (domestic) or $90 (international). Note the fee is waived for domestic applications received by the November 1, 2024 priority deadline. Contact the program administrator for details on fee waivers.
